INSPIRATIONS OF NOTE 03

We’ve gathered a new selection of objects and references that are currently inspiring us as we embrace autumn here at Steep Hill.

01. SWEDISH PINE SCONCES (Vintage)

We are in the process of sourcing light fixtures for the cottage rebuild and this style has been a top contender to go bedside in the primary bedroom. They are a popular style from the 80’s and you might have seen a similar take in the latest collection for West Elm by Pierce & Ward.

02. CLASSIC WATCH (Vintage)

Nothing complements the cuff of a sweater quite like a classic gold watch with a well worn leather band. This one is a restored unisex 9kt yellow gold Rolex Oyster cushion that has a uniquely shaped case and elegantly detailed face. An heirloom indeed.

03. ARIANE WOOL COAT (Canadian)

When did we decide that coat lapels had to be straight? This wavy take on a classic shape is so special and whimsical. The rich espresso brown wool is also the perfect hue to add to a cold weather closet. Made in Montreal.

04. HERITAGE PATCHWORK QUILT (Canadian)

One of the best parts about this time of year is sleeping with the windows open and letting the cool night air fill the cabin. A beautiful, comfy quilt adds the extra bit of insulation needed to stay toasty in bed.

05. OBA SOAP SPHERE (Small Maker)

It is indeed cold season (ah-choo!) and that means hand washing is in high gear. This sculptural soap block and resin sphere can make the routine experience something that is truly delightful. They come in a range of colours.

06. SCANDINAVIAN PINE LOUNGE CHAIRS (Vintage)

This brilliantly restored set of lounge chairs, originally designed by Yngve Ekström, belong in a screened porch overlooking a quiet lake. They balance the comfort of a recliner, with the structure of a Muskoka chair, and the ease of a patio seat.

07. PETITE FLEUR WALLPAPER

We’ve been on the lookout for a wallpaper to use in the cottage rebuild that will pay homage to the wallpapers in the former cottage. This one has a lovely stamped flower motif set on a very subtle cross hatched background.

08. ALPAPCA MERINO BUTTON DOWN VEST (Canadian)

Knitted vests are a staple in my closet throughout the fall, winter and spring. They add the perfect amount of added warmth without the bulk of big sweater sleeves. This one is my top pick for this year from Canadian knitwear brand Bare Knitwear.

09. ETEL SMOOTH PEARL EARRINGS (Canadian)

The easiest way to dress up a cosy fall outfit is with a pair of statement earrings. Michelle Ross is a Toronto-based jewellery designer that does the most incredible pieces that have an organic, sculptural essence to them.

10. MATCHSTICK CHALICE & STRIKER (Vintage)

Nothing evokes a warm autumnal mood better than a freshly lit beeswax candle and this little matchstick holder is the perfect accompaniment. These are the perfect little hosting gift as well.

11. ILLUSTRATED NATURE NOTEBOOKS (Vintage)

We have been slowly building up our library of vintage references and illustrated flora and fauna guides are always welcome. The instagram account @Two.Artists.At.Home is a great place to start getting inspired to find some incredible vintage books.

12. COTTAGE RED HC-184 (Paint Colour)

We are always pinning heritage cottage exterior inspiration to guide our client projects and the classic Falu Red cottages of Sweden have been top of mind lately. Benjamin Moore offers a version of this mineral-rich red iron oxide pigment in their Cottage Red HC-185 paint colour. We would pair it with White Down 970 for a creamy white trim accent.
