HOW TO GO FROM PINTEREST TO A PLAN

Pinterest is a great place to get ideas for your next project but the hard truth is that nothing gets built based on a mood board alone.

So what do you need to do to turn an idea (or mood board) into a working design?

Well, there are effectively two approaches.

1 - The long way: You can take your Pinterest board to a designer and hire them to interpret your ideas into a detailed plan. To do so, they will need to resolve the details from assemblies to finishing. There will be many iterations and refinements needed to create a buildable plan. This takes time and significant investment.

Approximate Budget Requirement: $25.00/SF.
For a 500 SF Cabin = $12,500
Depending on the team and deliverables.

2 - The short way: The other route is to find a ready to go architectural plan that is well detailed and fits the style you’re looking for and the functionality you require. While this kind of plan may still require a few customizations to suit your site and your preferences, you are starting miles ahead in terms of time and cost.

Budget required: $1.50/SF
For a 500 SF Cabin = $750
Depending on the customization required.

So which route is right for you?

If your site is fairly straightforward and a heritage-inspired cabin is what you want to start with (or add) on your property, then an architectural plan like our Heirloom Sleeping Cabin Plan is a great way to move the project from an idea into something actionable.

If your budget allows for a bespoke design or your site demands a custom solution, then it’s probably best to start a conversation with a design firm like Ruhl Builds. Yep, that’s us! If you’re not local to Muskoka, then we recommend you look for a team that can provide both detailed structural and architectural design in order to get a complete, tailored solution.
